Good news came from England since the usage of plastic bag has been reduced in 85%. This result is thanks to the introduction of a 5 pennies charge last October. This implementation of such levy brings both environmental and economical benefits.
On one hand, the environment will be benefited the most (at least that is what I think) since the amount of plastics dumped into the world’s oceans each year (8 million tones) will be reduced, and so the harm cause to marine fauna will be less since experts estimate that plastic is eaten by 31 species of marine mammals and more than 100 species of sea birds.
In the economic part, the implementation of the levy brought net proceeds of 41.3 million of pounds, money that can be saved or invested in, education, the environment health, voluntary or charity groups.
This piece of news brings hope to those harmed species and confidence to keep working and never give up on the building of sustainable world.
