Food waste, a very serious problem

Are you the person who buys the necessary amount of food for your proper sustain? or are you the one who buys extra food just because there is an special offer even if you do not need it?

Well if you are in the first group, congratulations!, you are contributing to hunger alleviation, which according to the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) could be achieved if just 25 percent of the wasted food each year was saved instead.

We have to take into account the three main benefits of reducing  the amount of wasted food. First of all, if we reduce the amount of extra food we buy, the energy needed for its production will also decrease, so the amount of money invested to produce the product. Second of all, the adverse effects of waste accumulation in the environment would be reduced, and finally, a whopping amount of money thrown as food every year could be saved.

So next time you go to the supermarket, think smartly and choose the more sustainable option.
